About Us

CineVue is an award-winning UK film blog packed with the very latest movie news, reviews, previews, events, interviews and film trailers from the world of cinema. Founded in April 2010 by writer and film critic Daniel Green - and described as "Young and fresh" by TotalFilm.com - CineVue is one of the fastest growing UK film blogs and also enjoys a varied international audience.

Our team of passionate cinéastes and cinephiles will be working to bring you the very best in content, from regular columns and weekly reviews of the very latest box office and DVD/Blu-ray releases, to special features, previews and interviews.

As an independent film blog, our aim is to reach out to the largest audience possible, whilst also highlighting and championing some of the more diverse and less known new releases from the world of cinema. We can only do this with your help and support, so please feel free to add your comments. In addition, you can email the CineVue team at editor[at]cine-vue.com with your questions and suggestions.

Thank you for your time - we hope you enjoy the site!

Regular Contributors

John Bleasdale (@drjonty)
John Bleasdale is a writer living in Italy and working in Venice. His interest in film started with The Cat from Outer Space and almost ended with The Tourist. Despite this hiccup, he has published work on Terrence Malick, as well as popular Hollywood films and independent cinema. His blog, entitled A Success Shaped Hole Called Failure, which can be found here.

Russell Cook (@Rusty1982)
After seeing Easy Rider for the first time, Russell's interest in film quickly became an obsession: the combination of its cinematography and soundtrack opened his mind to the evocative marriage of sound and the moving image. His favourite films include O Brother, Where Art Thou?Babel and Goodfellas.

Edward Frost (@Frost_Ed)
Edward is an enthusiastic, wannabe professional film journo brought up on a pedigree of John Hughes gems and Woody Allen classics. His point of no return was watching Manhattan, and he hasn’t looked back since, honing his passion for all things cinema. When he isn’t contributing to CineVue and studying for his Film Studies degree at Anglia Ruskin University, he writes for his own blog, found here.

Stephen Glass
Stephen is a Film & Television student at Warwick University. He's currently writing a film-philosophy dissertation on Mad Men and Breaking Bad, and outside of this his interests include horror and pornography, his favourite films including Irreversible, The Fly, and Boogie Nights. His recent short film, S.T.Demented, is available to view here.

Daniel Gumble (@DanGumble)
During his studies, Daniel worked as a co-director on a short film titled Echo and specialised in British social realist cinema since the 1950s. His other main interests lie in the work of David Lynch and Martin Scorsese, with Eraserhead and Taxi Driver among his favourite films of all time. Daniel also keeps a personal film and music blog, which can be found here.

Sophie Kingston-Smith
Since watching Candyman at a tender age and not being able to sleep for weeks, Sophie has been an avid film fan. After studying Film Studies and Psychology at Oxford Brookes, Sophie is now working for two Soho-based production companies and is hoping to move into casting. Sophie has a particular interest in British Social Realism and would very much like to shake Ken Loach’s hand.

Stephen Leach (@StephenWLeach)
After graduating from The University of Warwick with a 2:1 in Film with Television studies, Stephen punched himself in his own idiot face and realised he liked it. When he isn’t writing for CineVue he also contributes to other sites including Little White Lies, The Playground and Rhythm Circus, and currently works for film PR company Organic Marketing.

Cleaver Patterson (@Cleaver68)
Cleaver has written for such publications as Film Review and The Sunday Times Magazine on everything from vampires to interiors. However, it is his first love - film - to which he always returns. An aficionado of British horror such as the sublime Theatre of Blood, Cleaver now contributes the 'Fright of Your Life' column to Starburst Magazine online.

Lucy Popescu
Lucy is a writer/journalist and contributes to The Independent, The Guardian, Tribune and Literary Review amongst other publications. Her latest book The Good Tourist (Arcadia Books) is about human rights and ethical travel. Favourite filmmakers include Guillermo del Toro, Michael Haneke, Abbas Kiarostami, Mike Leigh, Lars von Trier and Michael Winterbottom. Her blog can be found here.

Robert Savage (@DirRobSavage)
Robert is an award-winning filmmaker, freelance writer and incurable cinephile since being exposed to Katsuhiro Ôtomo’s Akira at the age of just ten. Robert is also co-founder of European production company Idle Films, and has recently written and directed the feature film Strings, for which he is currently in talks regarding theatrical distribution. A promo for the film can be viewed here.

David Sugarman (@ShugZ)
David is a graduate of the University of Warwick. He spends rather too much of his time complaining about the success of Rob Savage, about whom he has very little positive to say. When not watching films, David enjoys writing about films, talking about films, complaining about films and reading books, comics and safety labels on tinned goods.

Oliver Sunley
Oliver gave his first film review when he was three and fell asleep watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. Seventeen years later, he watched another Tim Burton film in the cinema, Alice in Wonderland, and did the same again. He currently writes and directs short films and has just finished a John Waters-inspired trilogy entitled Gypsies of Sleaze alongside fellow CineVue writer Stephen Glass.

Sonia Zadurian (@SoniaZadurian)
Sonia currently works in the film department at the Barbican Centre, but would commit to approximately 3-5 years of tea making just for the chance to work within 10 yards of Pixar Studios and/or Christopher Nolan. Specialising in Cognitive Film Studies, her favourite films include Pan's Labyrinth, The Prestige and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
