Baftas 2016: Bridge of Spies, Carol lead

Announced by Stephen Fry and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, this year's Bafta nominations were revealed earlier this morning. Todd Haynes' Carol and Steve Spielberg's Bridge of Spies lead the way with nine nominations a-piece, earning nods for Best Film and Best Director as well as a host of technical awards. Elsewhere, Oscar hopefuls The Revenant, Spotlight and financial crash dramedy The Big Short also garnered numerous nominations while there were surprising shut-outs for David O. Russell's Joy and the highest-grossing British film of all time, Spectre. The inimitable Fry returns once again as host for this year's EE-sponsored Bafta ceremony, taking place at London's Royal Opera House on 14 February.
